F&A Waiver Policy

Facilities and administrative (F&A) costs are incurred by UMMC for general support that is not identified specifically with a particular project or program. For proposals that request an F&A rate below the appropriate rate, the Office of Research will review the requested rate to determine if it is sufficient to cover the costs incurred by UMMC for the project. The Office of Research will also determine whether the requested F&A rate is documented by the sponsor’s published materials. If the sponsor has no published policy for indirect costs, the Principal Investigator will need to complete and submit a (F&A) Cost Waiver Request Form. The waiver/reduction request will be reviewed within 5 business days. If the reduced rate is approved, and the rest of the proposal is in order, the proposal will be signed by the institutional official and the PI may proceed to submit the application to the sponsor for funding consideration. Questions regarding F&A rates should be directed to the Office of Research at 601-815-5000.
