Grants.gov, one of 24 E-Government initiatives, is to provide a simple, unified electronic storefront for interactions between grant applicants and the Federal agencies that manage grant funds.
26 Federal granting agencies with over 900 individual grant programs, awarding over $400 billion in grants annually.
Grants.gov provides a single access point for all grant funds available across the Federal government. It provides:
- A single source for all agencies to announce their grant opportunities and for applicants to find grant opportunities.
- A single, secure and reliable source for applying for Federal grants online.
- A simplified grant application process with reduction of paperwork.
Grant mechanisms for most agencies have been slowly phasing into grants.gov over period of time, but within a year or so, all agencies must be announcing and receiving applications through grants.gov for 75% of their granting opportunities.
This system includes common forms and allows for collection of data common to all applications and to be available to all granting agencies. Some agencies still have versions of pre-existing forms that request data unique to their needs.
